The Terra Cotta Army and Horses is one of the most spectacular sites in Xian. It is one of the burial pits belonging to the mausoleum of the first emperor of the Qin dynasty, Qinshihuang. You can not find a place anywhere else in the world like this, where so many soldiers have been standing here on guard for such a long time.
The museum has built several modern buildings in which the excavation work sites are contained. Three pits have been discovered. They were named Pit One, Pit Two and Pit Three in order of discovery. In Pit One, you will see the main part of the army, although most part of the pit is still underground as excavations continue. In Pit Two and Pit Three, you can find the remainder of the underground army.
Each of the Terra-cotta Warriors is believed to represent a soldier in the real Qin Army. Each one is unique; each face, its expression, hair and even moustache style are different from the next. The Terra-cotta Warriors stand nearly as tall as a real person, varying in height from 1.78m to 1.97m; and each is different in weight.
